ART THERAPY WORKSHOP
I designed an art therapy workshop, which took place as part of the Erasmus+ 'Art as Self Expression' project. The 36 participants were 14-20 year olds from Estonia, Romania and Poland and it took place in Narva, Estonia on September 26th.
As I am a practising artist, not a qualified therapist, I proceeded to research the topic thoroughly before designing this workshop. I wanted to create an enjoyable session that simply encourages free expression and has a reflective session at the end.
My aim was to create a workshop that consists of three parts: introduction, the process and reflection. During the process, the participants had the most time to create a drawing/painting/collage about their thoughts and emotions.
The aim was to encourage spontaneous expression and thinking outside of figuration. The main goal was to express feelings through the making, rather than to get a perfect and well-thought drawing in the end. After the process, the participants were asked to fill in reflective sheets and we also discussed some works as a group.
